Terms of service

Agreement

Koltype is operated by an Israeli sole proprietorship, trading as Koltype ("Koltype", "we", "us"). Contact: support@koltype.com. By creating an account or using the Koltype app or website you agree to these terms. If you use Koltype for an organization, you agree on its behalf.

The service

Koltype is software for Windows 10 and 11 that turns your speech into text in other apps. It transcribes either on your computer or in Koltype Cloud, our online service. Transcription is automatic and can contain mistakes; check important text before you send it.

Your account

You need an account to use Koltype. Keep your email account secure, since sign-in codes are sent there. You may use one account on up to 3 computers at a time; signing in on another computer signs out the one you have not used for the longest time. You are responsible for activity on your account.

Plans

• Free: 600 minutes of dictation on your computer per calendar month.
• Pro: $9.90 per month, plus VAT or sales tax where it applies, with 600 Koltype Cloud minutes in each monthly period (counted from the day your subscription started) and unlimited dictation on your computer.

Current plans and prices, including any yearly option, are shown on the pricing page when you buy. Unused minutes do not roll over. Koltype checks your plan online at least once every 14 days.

Koltype Cloud trial

• What it is: a free trial of Pro: 10 minutes of Koltype Cloud, for 3 days, and 5 more minutes once, on request, when the first 10 are nearly used up. Dictation on your computer is unlimited during the trial. You start it from the Koltype app (Settings, Billing), which opens Paddle's checkout on our website.
• Payment method: the checkout asks for a card or PayPal. Nothing is charged when the trial starts.
• Automatic renewal: unless you cancel before the trial ends, Pro starts by itself when it ends. Paddle then charges $9.90 plus VAT or sales tax where it applies, and again every month, until you cancel. The exact end of your trial is shown in the app, on your account page and in our emails.
• Reminders: we email you 2 days, 1 day, 5 hours and 1 hour before the trial ends, with the time it ends, the amount that will be charged and how to cancel. The app reminds you too.
• How to cancel: choose Cancel trial in the app (Settings, Billing) or on your account page. It takes effect at once, nothing is charged, and your account moves to Free. Deleting your account also cancels the trial.
• Subscribe now: you can start Pro before the trial ends. It is charged at once, after we show you the terms, and your monthly period starts that day.
• If the charge at the end fails: Pro does not start and your account stays on Free until the payment goes through. Paddle may try the charge again. You can update your payment method on Paddle's billing page, or choose Cancel, do not charge me on your account page, and then nothing is charged.
• Limits: trials are limited per person, email address and computer, and we may refuse a trial to prevent abuse. A refused trial is cancelled at once and nothing is charged.
• Refund: if you are charged at the end of a trial and did not mean to be, ask within 14 days and you get that payment back in full, as described in the refund policy.

Payment, Paddle and taxes

Payments are handled by Paddle.com, which acts as our merchant of record: Paddle sells the subscription to you, takes payment by card or PayPal, collects any VAT or sales tax and issues your invoices. Paddle's buyer terms also apply to your purchase. Koltype never sees your card number.

Subscriptions renew automatically each period until cancelled. We may change prices with at least 30 days notice; a change applies from your next renewal.

Extra cloud minutes

On Pro, Koltype Cloud can keep working after the included minutes of a period are used up:

• When the 600 included minutes of a period are used up, Koltype Cloud keeps going at $0.02 a minute ($1.20 an hour).
• Extra minutes are off until you turn them on in your account page, where you also pick the monthly cap: $0, $5, $10, $20 or $50 ($10 is suggested).
• At the cap, or with extra minutes off, Koltype keeps working on your computer at no extra cost.
• Extra minutes are billed with your next renewal. If $10 or more builds up before then, it is charged at once. If you cancel, what is left is charged at once. Extra minutes you use after cancelling, while Pro is still active, are charged when Pro ends. A final amount under $0.70 is not charged.
• VAT or sales tax is added to extra minutes the same way as to your plan.
• Unused minutes do not roll over.

Koltype Cloud time is the length of the audio our server receives, measured to the second. Each phrase counts at least one second, and clips under half a second are not counted. Each charge for extra time bills whole minutes and leaves the rest for a later charge; the last charge when Pro ends rounds the rest up to a whole minute. Time is never rounded up to a minute per phrase. Extra minutes are off until you turn them on on your account page, and you can turn them off again at any time; a change applies from then on.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from your account page. Pro stays active until the end of the paid period, then your account moves to Free. Extra minutes that are not billed yet are charged at once when you cancel. Extra minutes you use after that are charged when Pro ends, and a final amount under $0.70 is not charged. If you delete your account instead, Pro ends at once and the unused part of the period is not refunded automatically. Refunds are described in the refund policy.

Acceptable use

Follow the acceptable use policy. Do not try to get around plan limits, claim more trials than allowed, reverse engineer our server, overload it, or resell access.

Your content

What you dictate is yours. You give us only the permission needed to transcribe it for you and, if you turn on cloud backup, to keep its text for you. We do not store it on our servers otherwise, as described in the privacy policy.

The app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Koltype app. It includes open-source components under their own licenses, listed in the app. Updates may be offered from time to time.

Availability

We work to keep Koltype Cloud available but cannot promise it will never be interrupted. When it cannot be reached, Koltype transcribes on your computer, and with History on it keeps your recordings so you can retry them.

Disclaimers and liability

Koltype is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months before it. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.

Ending the agreement

You can delete your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, with notice where reasonable.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the courts of Tel Aviv have jurisdiction, except where consumer law where you live gives you the right to go to your local courts.
